Because the game originally checked whether a disk is in the drive, and then checked whether it’s the right disk (to make sure you weren’t pirating the game). Just download any ISO file, like this tiny version of Linux, just download and open it and ignore everything that’s in it. You don’t need an image of the actual game disk, the game just needs to see something, doesn’t matter what’s in it. Windows 8 and 10 have ISO support built in-just double-click an image file and it’ll show up under “This PC” as just another disk. ISO is a format of disk image, which is basically a file that acts like a CD/DVD. Short version: click here, click Core, open the downloaded file, game should now work.
